It all started with a simple problem: I need a suit, but where am I supposed to buy this thing? The department stores had options — approximately four million options — that were as outdated as the people selling them. The pushy suit warehouses made us uncomfortable, and we weren't falling for their "buy one (for about two paychecks) get 10 free" gimmicks. Give us one suit we love, not 11 we don't. So we moved on to the pretentious suit boutiques where we and our wallets felt way out of place. Why was this so difficult? We decided it shouldn't be, and a revolution was born. Initially created as a concept for an entrepreneurship class, which then turned into a business plan, and finally, after our founder graduated from The Ohio State University, Pursuit became a reality!
We're not trying to be everything to everybody. At Pursuit, we aim to make buying suits, shirts, ties and more simple, fun and approachable. If you know exactly what you want, we make it easy to find. If you just need a suit and want someone to show you the ropes, we provide approachable advice to get you feeling good about your purchase. We focus exclusively on reasonably priced, great-looking, slim fit clothing for guys who want to dress modern in their Pursuit of a job, a grade, a girl, a good time.
Whether you want some help figuring out sizing, need a solid recommendation on how to get your suit altered, or are finally ready to admit you have no freaking clue how to tie a bowtie, know that we are a team of real guys who are here to help.
Founder + CEO
In 2011, Nate DeMars' résumé included some corporate experience, non-profit work, and a fresh MBA from The Ohio State University, but his fashion résumé contained exactly one item; ‘Best Dressed’ at his small, rural Wisconsin high school — not much of an accomplishment, but a story that has seen a lot of miles. This lack of experience in fashion retail is one reason Pursuit is very different — Pursuit wasn’t intended to be a better version of <insert generic suit store here>, Nate wanted to create a new way for guys to buy suits that was relevant to their lifestyle. An idea and a class project turned into a leap and thousands of hours in the Pursuit store talking to guys about suits, job interviews, and bad experiences at the mall.
Chief Creative Officer
Shay's time was in high demand as the super-talented designer in an MBA program, but his weakness for bowties quickly drew him into the idea that has become Pursuit. His clean, minimalist design is all over everything Pursuit, his status as a social media junkie has led us to every corner of the Internet, and his daily bow ties and the color purple (the actual color, not the Whoopie Goldberg movie) has brought a unique style to the store too.
Hey guys, I want to say I absolutely love your business concept! This was the first line of the email David sent after learning about Pursuit through a friend. As a young guy, fresh out of Ohio State who liked to dress well, he saw the vision immediately even though it hadn't yet been fully developed. David has been instrumental in making sure that great concept comes to life in the store, in our fun videos, and online.
Director of Development
Before Jake joined Pursuit, he brought a friend into our store and sold him a suit without needing any help from us! He fully had our attention and we soon arranged to pop-up in his fraternity house. Shortly after Jake joined Pursuit as Director of Development, where he has helped create strategies for Pursuit on college campuses, including our new campus ambassador program, and he also works one-on-one with customers in our store.
In the early days of Pursuit, Jordan was our first regular, stopping every few days for a new shirt, tie, or belt. As a student in the entrepreneurship program at Ohio State he was just as interested in the new business concept that sprouted from the classroom as he was the clothing. Jordan brings the perspective of the customer to the Pursuit store and works directly with them to be sure they get the suit they need, along with developing systems that make the store run smoothly, and helping to create the Pursuit retail experience.
