We first met Quinn and Steve in the early days of Pursuit. Quinn was a wedding officiant with a penchant for bow ties so the guys made frequent stops at our Gateway pop-up and later our Short North shop. When they came to us to outfit them and their groomsmen for their own wedding, we were excited and honored.
From our first discussion about the wedding, it was obvious that Steve and Quinn had thought through every detail of the day. After shooting photos at amazing Columbus locations (Scioto Audubon Metropark, Franklin Park Conservatory) they held their ceremony and reception in the heart of the city at Dock 580. We appreciate the fantastic photos provided by Steve Hronek of Shoot 2 Studios.
The guys went went with three piece, light grey, slim fit suits from our Pursuit Wedding Collection. As loyal customers, they were already very familiar with Pursuit, and called it a natural decision as they’d look great and receive great service. The couple also selected bow ties for themselves and ties for the their groomsmen, with Steve’s side in shades of blue and Quinn’s wearing purple. The bridesmaids mirrored those color pairings in dresses from David’s Bridal.
The guys incorporated some unique and thoughtful components into their ceremony to make the day even more special. Quinn surprised Steve with a song during the first look and each penned a love letter to the other that was then read by each best man at the ceremony. Steve’s letter swore that no matter how much he loved YouTube videos of baby goats (we dare you), he would not purchase one without first discussing it with Quinn. Open communication is a key pillar of a healthy marriage.
The guys recommendation to couples planning their own wedding is to start early, though you may not need to start as early as they did. Quinn & Steve were, in fact, engaged themselves for four years! This is a story we have heard often in the past year, of long waits finally over following the historic decision by the United States Supreme Court. This quote from Quinn beautifully captures the spirit of this wedding.
“When Steve repeated this question back to me, I instantly knew my answer. Being able to be legally married in our home state of Ohio is an amazing privilege which, at one point in our lives, we thought may never happen. So, now that we are legally married, I’m excited to finally get all the paperwork done to legally have our last names changed to Halas-Wright. While to some a simple hyphenation may seem simple, to me it represents that our separate journeys have been brought together through marriage, and though we carry with us the heritage of our individual families, it is as a joined pair that we move forward with our lives.”
Steve offered another piece of advice to engaged couples, suggesting they include something special in their wedding ceremony that is unique to them and their relationship.
“We planted a tree instead of lighting a unity candle, and we planted it using dirt from 4 locations special to us – each of our parents’ homes; Ada, OH (where we met); and Columbus, OH (where we are starting our married lives together).”
It was our honor to play a role in Steve & Quinn’s special day. If you or someone close to you is planning a wedding, we’d love to hear from through our brief Wedding form.
