Meet the Team: Deangelo Chaney, Pursuit Short North Sales Lead

June 18, 2019
By nate

What was once a one-man class project at The Ohio State University has become a bona fide suit shop, stacked with many talented team members who have made Pursuit what it is today.

Why are we here? Through the years we have been humbled by the number of people who have chosen to make us a part of some of their biggest days. We have worked hard to build a collection of products just for you and to make getting your suits more than just an item on your checklist but rather a unique, meaningful, and fun experience. On the surface, Pursuit was formed to provide a stylish, modern alternative that focused on top-notch service and approachable advice without the luxury price tag. But deeper than that, Pursuit was formed from our customer’s stories that inspire us every day.

Who are we? Well, some of us began like you: as customers. Others landed on our doorstep through mutual friends. And we’d like for you to get to know us a little better—what we each do, where we come from, and what we’re excited about. Meet Deangelo Chaney:

1. Where are you originally from?

I was born in Columbus, OH.

2. What do you do for Pursuit?

I am the sales lead at Pursuit Short North.

3. Favorite restaurant in Columbus. Go!

My favorite restaurant in Columbus WAS Eddy’s Chicken & Waffles on Livingston and Rhoads, but now I believe it’s Wendy’s. It was founded in Dublin, it international AND I appreciate how they “merged” with the Triarc Company, and then later renamed the new amalgamation “The Wendy’s Company.” That’s hard.

4. What’s the best piece of professional advice you’ve ever received?

The best piece of professional advice I’ve ever received probably would be “Dress for the job you want, not the job you have.”

5. How did you first hear about Pursuit?

I first heard about Pursuit through a friend. He told me about it awhile ago, and told me to check them out. Years later, a friend of mine emailed me the job posting for Pursuit.

6. How long have you been working at Pursuit?

I have been working at Pursuit about a year and a half.

7. What’s the best part about working at Pursuit?

The best part about working at Pursuit is the atmosphere, the coworkers, the customers and the job itself. It’s all very different—in a good way.

8. What’s your favorite Pursuit story? This could be from a noteworthy customer, a personal experience, an embarrassing moment, a team outing—anything!

My favorite Pursuit experience would probably have to be Anthony scaring Tyler, and Tyler being so scared that he jumped into my arms. Think Scooby and Shaggy. The full story is much funnier, but I like to save that for an in-person interaction, because the body language doesn’t have the same effect on paper as it does face-to-face.

9. What’s your biggest piece of advice you could give to a Pursuit customer?

If I had to give a piece of advice to a customer, it would be “love yourself.” We see (as you could imagine) a lot of gentlemen. Wide range of ages. I won’t say all, but a good percentage of them have things about themselves that they hate that aren’t such a big deal. I would tell them to let that go. Life is too short to be SO worried about how you look. I wouldn’t suggest skipping showers, or not ironing your clothes, but just know there are worse things in life than being chunky (read: thicc). #GottaBe2SumtoDoSum

10. Last, but certainly not least, what are you in pursuit of? In other words, what’s most meaningful to you? What are you striving for outside of your job here at Pursuit?

I am in Pursuit of happiness. That’s a very ambiguous thing to be looking for, but that’s the fun of it. I think that the journey to that happiness is where the actual happiness comes from. Not like a “pot of gold at the end of the rainbow” or “this map leads to happiness.” The actual process of living life, being kind, being curious and open-minded, and just smiling and trying to be as positive as possible.

A huge thank you to Deangelo for taking the time to answer our questions. If you have any other questions for Deangelo, leave a comment below!
