What was once a one-man class project at The Ohio State University has become a bona fide suit shop, stacked with many talented team members who have made Pursuit what it is today.
Why are we here? Through the years we have been humbled by the number of people who have chosen to make us a part of some of their biggest days. We have worked hard to build a collection of products just for you and to make getting your suits more than just an item on your checklist but rather a unique, meaningful, and fun experience. On the surface, Pursuit was formed to provide a stylish, modern alternative that focused on top-notch service and approachable advice without the luxury price tag. But deeper than that, Pursuit was formed from our customer’s stories that inspire us every day.
Who are we? Well, some of us began like you: as customers. Others landed on our doorstep through mutual friends. And we’d like for you to get to know us a little better—what we each do, where we come from, and what we’re excited about. Meet Sheyan McGrath:
1. Where are you originally from?
Rio Grande, Ohio. It’s about two hours southeast of Columbus and known for being the home of the great Bob Evans.
2. What do you do for Pursuit?
I am Pursuit Short North’s Wedding Coordinator! I’ve had the privilege of helping hundreds of couples and their wedding parties get suits for their big day. I also help run the IT side of things and am the Bow-Tying Sensei.
3. Favorite restaurant in Columbus. Go!
Spagio Wine Cellar in Grandview. The food is good, but I’m there for the wine, to be honest.
4. What’s the best piece of professional advice you’ve ever received?
Give yourself permission to shut off and recharge. When it comes to working for a small business, there is always something to be done, so it’s taken time to learn a good work/life balance. It’s a task we, as a team, have all started to take notice of and hold each other accountable to.
5. How did you first hear about Pursuit?
My (soon-to-be) sister-in-law, Allie! She was working with Pursuit when they were looking for a wedding coordinator, and I happened to be graduating soon and job searching. After she explained the description to me and I started researching the company, I was hooked!
6. How long have you been working at Pursuit?
It will be two years this May!
7. What’s the best part about working at Pursuit?
The environment. The team that I get to work with makes Pursuit great. I’ll refrain from going into a super cheesy spiel (because I totally could) of how amazing everyone is but… shout out to ya’ll, I love ya.
8. What’s your favorite Pursuit story? This could be from a noteworthy customer, a personal experience, an embarrassing moment, a team outing—anything!
No one gets my name right. From spelling it to saying it, very rarely is it correct (at least) the first time around. So it’s become this ongoing, ever-growing joke at Pursuit of how many names/personalities I have. Here are just a few: Shannon, Diane, Stephen, Sharon, and my two favorites: Chantel and Syria.
9. What’s your biggest piece of advice you could give to a Pursuit customer?
If you can help it, don’t rush the experience. Pursuit loves to get to know our customers and make sure you get exactly what you’re looking for. So give us the time to show you that!
10. Last, but certainly not least, what are you in pursuit of? In other words, what’s most meaningful to you? What are you striving for outside of your job here at Pursuit?
Like any good-ole-fashioned millennial, I am in pursuit of experiences, as much as I can with the time that I have. There is nothing I love more than going to a new place, trying a different food—really anything outside of the day-to-day.
